This 90-minute training explores the intersection of substance use disorders (SUD) and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in Louisiana. Participants will gain insights into current trends in opioid, fentanyl, and methamphetamine use, and how these patterns influence STI risk and outcomes in Louisiana. The session highlights harm reduction strategies, community resources, as well as stigma reduction approaches for providers and frontline staff. A panel of will share perspectives from the field, including disease intervention specialists and harm reduction teams, equipping attendees with practical tools to address SUD and STI challenges in their communities.

 

Learning Objective

  • Examine the intersection of substance use disorders (SUD) and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in Louisiana, with emphasis on harm reduction, stigma reduction, and clinical/provider awareness.

 

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify key factors contributing to the overlap between SUD and STI transmission, acquisition, and treatment within Louisiana.
  2. Apply harm reduction strategies and community resources to better support individuals with SUD and reduce barriers to STI prevention and care.
