April Topic: STIs (Syphilis, Congenital syphilis, Chlamydia, and gonorrhea)

Overview:

The Southeast STI/HIV Prevention Training Center, in partnership with the Georgia Department of Public Health Epidemiology Programs, is hosting a three session virtual series highlighting current trends, surveillance insights, and data to action strategies across STIs, Hepatitis, and HIV in Georgia. Each 90 minute Tuesday session (STIs on April 28, Hepatitis on May 26, and HIV on June 16 from 12:00–1:30 PM ET) will feature an overview of public health activities, key epidemiologic findings, essential takeaways for practice, and an interactive discussion with frontline stakeholders. The series is designed for clinicians, public health professionals, and program staff seeking to strengthen data informed decision making and improve outcomes across the continuum of sexual health and infectious disease prevention.

  • Objectives:
  • Describe current public health activities related to STI, Hepatitis, and HIV surveillance in Georgia, including case follow up, completeness monitoring, and identification of missed opportunities.
  •
  • Interpret basic epidemiologic trends—such as case counts, demographic patterns, and geographic distribution—to better understand the burden of disease across the state.
  •
  • Identify 3–5 critical takeaways from each session that translate surveillance findings into actionable program and clinical insights.
  •
  • Engage with frontline stakeholders (e.g., DIS, district health staff, clinicians) to understand how surveillance data informs real world practice, service delivery, and data'to'action activities.
  •
  • Apply lessons learned to strengthen local program planning, quality improvement efforts, and cross sector collaboration in STI, Hepatitis, and HIV prevention

  • Target Audience:

This knowledge-based activity is targeted to physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, nurses, public health workers and other health care providers.
