STI Overview

OBJECTIVES 

1.  Describe most recent epidemiology for reportable STIs in the United States and locally

2.  Identify the common bacterial or antibiotic treated STIs

3.  Identify the common viral STIs

4.  Describe at least 2 population factors increasing one's risk for acquisition of an STI

5.  Discuss provider skills in sexual health services3.  Identify the common viral STIs

6.  Describe the importance of interprofessional collaboration in health department and

private practice regarding STIs

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by the UAB Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine and the STD/HIV Prevention Training Center at Johns Hopkins. The UAB Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Dr. Rutland would like to disclose that they get a consulting fee with Gilead/ViiV, she gets an honorarium with the Mid Atlantic AIDS Education and Training Center (MAAETC), she gets support for travel to meetings and other purposes from Gilead/ViiV, she gets paid for development of education presentations from Clinical Care Options, and she also gets payment for lectures, including service on speakers bureaus from ViiV, CCO and MAAAETC.  Ms. Liang would like to disclose that their institution gets CDC money for the regional NNPTC (National Network of STD Clinical Prevention Training Centers.

This nursing continuing Professional Development activity was approved by the Oregon Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

 

There are 16.5 nursing contact hours awarded for those who attend the entire program as well as complete the evaluation for this program.
