Syphilis Update:
Understanding the Concerning Rise in
Maternal and Congenital Syphilis in Hawaii

This webinar will address the increasing rate of syphilis cases within Hawaii, with a special focus on maternal syphilis and congenital syphilis. Learners will gain an understanding of the local epidemiology of syphilis as well as the important role the Hawaii Department of Health performs in syphilis case follow-up and investigation. An overview of the pathophysiology of syphilis with its varied clinical manifestations will be discussed. Content will include the importance of staging, stage-based treatment as well as best practices for diagnosis and follow-up.
After this webinar participants will be able to:
- Describe the role of the local health department in syphilis follow-up and case investigation
- Summarize current syphilis epidemiology in Hawaii including syphilis among pregnant women and congenital syphilis
- Outline best practices for clinical management of syphilis including diagnosis, staging, treatment and follow-up

Learning Community Series for Clinicians: Testing, Diagnosis, and Treatment of Maternal and Congenital Syphilis
Description
If you are a health care provider in Hawaii and work with pregnant women and newborns from communities that face cultural, economic and language barriers to obtaining good prenatal and neonatal care you may be eligible to register for our Learning Community Series for Clinicians.
The Learning Community Series for Clinicians consists of four, 1-hour sessions in October and November and will focus on case studies to address clinical treatment of maternal and congenital syphilis.
